ux is impossible to do well, both empirically and logically. there's just too many conflicting use cases.

indirection kills
in programming environments.
news at T.translate(sys.getLocalLang(), $news_events[current_blog_complaint].time.hour.toTS(sys.getLocalTZ())) oh and don't forget about the SCSS hell that goes along with it.

ballyhooed
depressing
the ux train wreck that has taken over laptops of anything other than proper inverted-T cursor keys.
mind boggling
how does AMD survive when they are so apparently out to lunch? the crypto thing was epic but that's over and done. meanwhile they fail seemingly epically wrt ai support? business is a mystery to me.
riddle me this
why do foreign people talk to their pets in foreign languages? it isn't like the pet can understand them!?
the future!!
windows 11 still cannot get the clock time right all the time. like not even from the internet.

worser
html templating is just the worst idea ever.
well, excepting all others.
p.s. why does blogger ux still suck so much?

visceral
the ms windows multiple mini dots "processing" activity spinner animation design thing makes me kind of angry.

lag kills, news at elves
the ios soft keyboard word suggestion update lag means when i tap the word i want it has a very non-zero chance of changing out from under me just before i tap WHICH RESULTS IN THE EXACT OPPOSITE UX I WANTED because wtf now i have to clean up THAT mess!
lies, damned lies, & the web
firefox strict tracking protection mode turned on "Fix major site issues" which ALLOWS trackers. yeah, that makes so much sense.
nobody can square the ux of "being able to do things" with "being secure / having privacy / anonymity". (especially when there is money involved.)

sticky hell
the idea of a sticky header as you scroll down sort of makes sense in the abstract but i have never ever encountered one that doesn't just puss me off.

rocket science
empirically: making a ui that is not broken ux for string searching, and results thereof.
the best camera
is the one you have with you.
unless
it is an iphone and i cannot turn off bleedin' hdr.

boggles the mind
There seems to be a ux brain virus that has infected many many software systems: buttons floating over the text area, inevitably covering up things I wish i could see. Blogger does it. MS Word does it. a often seems to be due to them pushing "AI" features?
markdown
the standardization and commitment to consistent clear formatting rules is why i love markdown over html.
/s, indeed.

middle finger
the ios swipe up because we got rid of the home button and everything about it (including touchid) drives me nuts. the entire implementation of swipe up (or sideways at the bottom of the screen) makes me kind of livid.
no wonder the aliens refuse to make contact with us.

eluktronics
i have not had good "luk" with their products. keyboard and trackpad serious deficiencies. oh well.
self defeat
it is unfortunately empirically a constant ux fail train to try to use microsoft office products.
cultish
every software project quickly becomes a cult based around how things already work, and tends to sweep things like tech debt under the carpet.
like when i go back to old personal project code. "who wrote this stuff??? oh. wait."

escape velocity
has anybody successfully fed AI into AI yet?
i guess we'd either already know, or be dead before we realized anything?
good things
i cannot strongly defend 3d printing from an ecological perspective. having said that, i love my fdm printer. i have a monoprice mini delta v2.
browsers
i don't guess there is a web browser any more that doesn't get ux wrong: bookmarks; tabs; history; link copying; text search...
msft
the "show more options" right click menu thing in windows 11 is just plain embarrassing.
like, they didn't really finish their homework and sre just hoping nobody will notice the fact that it just gives up at that point and reverts to windows 10.
so like WE *have* to upgrade to eleven OR ELSE, but they can just phone it in.
msft
soooo... latest windows 11 update has resulted in having some windows os buttons be white text on a light pink background.
deity expletive.
crushin' it
i feel like msft only gets ever worse.
actually same with apple.
ok ok pretty much just everything.
fool's errand
https://github.com/clasp-developers/clasp/issues/1717
programming languages suck.
your home-grown one sucks the most.
love/hate
i appreciate lisps & schemes & rackets & clojures & shens a lot.
but holy DX hell batman!
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/38172152/elisp-test-an-object-is-a-function
funny pukey
not funny ha ha.
how all ux was already bad, but then we went crazy with touch and now ai.
msft
complaints about the ux of msft office turn out to be pretty valid, in my experience.
especially if you've ever used alternative like google or slack
which also suck, but suck less.
math & politics
for all parties concerned, ideally, as a nerd i think math would be a better thing to use for stuff like how to run voting, or how to draw up districts.
of course i know that would depend on having actually good data. can't win?
invention
The Shoe Boot.
attaches to your shoes that you want to leave on the porch but bot gave them ever get stolen.
you know, like a car boot.
pick yer poison
kinda hate it when i apt install some linux command line utils only to see that it is actually implemented in python. feels like i am getting ripped off

ecommerce
nobody does a great job at making web sites. not even ecommerce. not even amazon (it just is overall less bad).
aaaaaaand
certainly not toyota dealerships.
automobile usability
i wish it were a rule that turn signals:
1) had to be orange
2)) had to not be fancy animated, just blink.
3) had to be their own bulbs.
4) had to be at least halfway up the car.
burgers
how can there be that many places to buy burgers? yeah, or pizza. i'm making burgers at home. crazy times.
